Project Details
Description
This grant supports the 2009 informatics conference, 'Personal Electronic Health Records: From Biomedical Research to People's Health.' This conference of the Friends of the National Library of Medicine will offer crosscutting perspectives from government, industry, health centers and research experts on the development and widespread implementation of both electronic health records (EHRs) and personal health records (PHRs). In its economic recovery package, the current administration plans to spend $19 billion to accelerate the use of electronic medical records in doctors' offices. The May conference will bring together 300 to 400 industry leaders, policymakers, health informaticians, researchers and public health professionals for workshops on key issues related to the evolution and use of PHRs. Conference outcomes will be: (1) the identification of priorities for the broader use of PHRs and an associated regulatory framework to be incorporated in an action plan; (2) a report on advancements made at the conference; and (3) a video record of the event.
