Abstract
Postoperative adhesion development contributes extensively to patient morbidity, and the cost of medical care, yet few surgeons acknowledge the magnitude of the problem they represent. In large part, this likely stems from failure to recognize the high frequency with which postoperative adhesions occur. Following laparotomy, adhesions can be identified in the vast majority of patients. This occurrence is not unique to women with infertility or even to women, as adhesions appear to develop in males at least as frequently as they do in females.
