Cervical carcinoma is associated with human papillomarivus infection. Proliferation of cancer cells depends on the continual expression of the E6 and E7 viral oncogenes. This article reviews treatment strategies that can specifically interfere with expression or function of these proteins and immunotherapeutic approaches that can specifically eliminate cells that express E6 and E7.
