Abstract
Bacterial meningitis remains a major problem in public health and individual clinical practice. Although predominantly affecting very young children, outbreaks periodically occur in closed population groups such as schools and recruit camps. Prompt recognition and effective management of this disease can be life saving for the patient as well as extremely satisfying to the clinician.
