Abstract

Conclusion: Bilateral medialization laryngoplasty appears to be a safe and effective treatment for patients with glottal incompetence due to a wide array of causes. Patients with degenerative neuromuscular diseases and/or poor pulmonary function appear to have inferior results when compared with those with paralysis, paresis, or presbylaryngis. Appropriate patient selection is essential.
