Abstract
A consensus of current literature indicates that both growth rate and reactivity of the vascular smooth muscle cells are increased in genetic hypertension. These increases are associated with abnormalities in many of the transport functions of the plasma membrane. The primary changes responsible for all of these abnormalities in genetic hypertension may be an increase in the microviscosity of the plasma membrane of these cells.
