Abstract

Continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration is a bedside method of dialysis used in the management of fluid and electrolyte disorders in critically ill patients. The technique and the advantages and disadvantages of the procedure are discussed. In addition, introduction is made to a similar form of therapy, continuous arteriovenous hemodialysis, that may eventually replace continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration as the treatment of choice when bedside dialysis is indicated.
