Abstract

Experiments were performed on rabbit aorta and femoral arteries to test the hypothesis that neutral dextran, of a similar molecular weight to albumin, does not show preferential lamellar binding and is rapidly removed from the arterial wall by immersion in tracer-free solution. Results demonstrate that the distribution of macromolecules within the aortic wall is not just size dependent, but also depend on the degree of interaction between the macromolecule and arterial wall components, such as elastin.
