Abstract

To the Editor: Because we1 and others234 have found endoscopic laser therapy to be efficacious in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, we found two reports in the June 25 issue56 rather disappointing. Krejs et al.5 reported that endoscopic laser therapy is not beneficial for acute bleeding from peptic ulcers. This result is directly attributable to the design of the study rather than to any deficiency of endoscopic laser therapy. First, we reemphasize Fromm's editorial comment7 in the same issue: “No matter which method of coagulation is selected. These are not procedures to be used by novices.”.
