Abstract

Recent advances in MR imaging have significantly enhanced the diagnosis and management of epilepsy. This article focuses on the expanding role of functional MR imaging in our imaging armamentarium. Diffusion, perfusion, and BOLD functional MR imaging techniques are discussed in detail with emphasis on epilepsy applications. Functional MR imaging seizure focus localization, eloquent cortex mapping, and the potential for functional MR imaging to replace Wada testing are explored. With anticipated future development, functional MR imaging holds great promise for epilepsy patients.
