Abstract

We have recently studied an electrophoretically fast-moving hemoglobin (Hb) variant which was present in four members of a Spanish family from Madrid, and identified it as Hb J-Pontoise which has an Ala→Asp substitution at position 63 of the α chain. This is the second observation of this variant; the abnormality was discovered in 1977 by Thillet et al in a Spanish male.
