In vitro assays for the evaluation of immunologic reactions to foods

Many in vitro immunologic tests have been used to study individuals with adverse reactions to foods including assays for antibodies, mediators, and lymphocyte responses. These assays have provided many insights into the pathogenesis of adverse food reactions. Many of the assays can also be useful adjuncts to the diagnosis of adverse food reactions when they are interpreted by a knowledgeable physician in light of the patient's history.
