Abstract
This paper describes the results for pressure drops and flow patterns obtained for four different prosthetic valves studied in a pulse duplication system. The mitral valves which are included in this study had tissue annulus diameters in the range of 26 mm to 29 mm and are: (1) the new St. Jude Medical Inc. (SJM) hinged bi-leaflet mitral valve which has a tissue annulus diameter of 26 mm; (2) the Starr-Edwards (S-E) caged ball mitral valve Model 6400/2M (new designation 28M) with a tissue annulus diameter of 28 mm; (3)Bjork-Shiley (B-S) 29 MBP tilting disk mitral valve which had a tissue annulus diameter of 29 mm; and (4) Lillehei-Kaster (L-K) 22M tilting disk mitral valve having a tissue annulus dimension of 29 mm.
