Abstract
PhD programs in public administration spend considerable time preparing students to conduct research and engage in the scholarship of the discipline. The typical program, however, spends little to no time preparing these same students to be educators. It is this lack of preparation that this book speaks to. In this chapter, the authors introduce The Craft of Teaching in Public Affairs. This is accomplished by discussing the role that quality teaching plays in the public affairs classroom and providing an overview of the book structure and chapters that focus directly on the issues.
