Abstract

A simple technique is described for the hydrolysis of gelatin resulting in good recovery of hydroxyproline. Hydrolysis of not more than 240 mg of gelatin in 4 ml of approximately 6 N HCl gives maximum yield of hydroxyproline after 12 hr at 100°C, with the required time decreasing to 1 hr at 130-150°.
