Abstract
The activities of acetyl CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthetase, fatty acid desaturase and glucose 6 phosphatase were measured in livers of newly hatched chicks (Gallus domesticus) at various time intervals after initiation of glucose feeding. Glucose feeding significantly depressed glucose 6 phosphatase activity by 2 hr. Maximum depression occurred at 20 hr. Glucose feeding significantly stimulated the activities of acetyl CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthetase and fatty acid desaturase at 8 hr. Stimulation increased through 40 hr of glucose feeding except for acetyl CoA carboxylase activity which peaked at 20 hr. No significant stimulation of any of the lipogenic enzymes was observed prior to 8 hr. It is concluded that the activities of the lipogenic enzymes increased in an essentially parallel fashion in response to glucose feeding.
