Abstract
Thin disks of calcified and decalcified coronal dentin were examined for optical properties. When images were transmitted from a pulpal-to-occlusal direction, the image was magnified ; when the disks were inverted, the image was reduced in size. Magnification is presumably the result of the divergence of dentinal tubules. The image transmission may be a light-pipe or fiberoptic phenomenon.
