Abstract
Maternal-fetal nutrition is a complex and interactive process. It is limited by the preconceptual status of the mother and continuously modified by many factors during pregnancy. Consequently, optimal conditions for maternal nutrition should be established prior to pregnancy. To maintain optimal nutrition for the normal fetus, the mother is expected to provide energysupplying and nonenergetic nutrients in sufficient quantities.
