Abstract
A recent case-control study in the Japanese population has shown association of type 1 diabetes with a guanine (G) to adenine (A) change in the nucleotide sequence (Ala45→Thr) of the transcription factor NeuroD/Beta2 on chromosome 2q32. However, this polymorphic marker showed no evidence of association in case-control or familial studies in a Caucasian population. In an effort to confirm the association of NeuroD/Beta2 polymorphisms with type 1 diabetes, we analyzed the A/G polymorphism in Chinese, Korean and Caucasian populations. Our studies in a much larger data set revealed no evidence of association in these populations.
