Abstract

The absorption of carrier-free 18F and 125I from the mouth was quantitated in anaesthetized rats. Timed blood and urine collections, and several representative tissues, were analyzed for radioactivity and the data used to estimate the fractional absorption of the 18F and 125I doses. After 1, 2 and 3.5 h. the absorption of the 125I dose was 7.3, 12.6 and 23.9 per cent, respectively. Radiofluoride absorption was 6.8 per cent after 2.5 h. It is concluded that the oral absorption of fluoride. although readily measurable, occurs more slowly than that of iodide.
