Abstract

In conferring the 1990s as the decade of the brain, clinicians and scientists have recognized schizophrenia as a priority disorder for the development of innovative therapies and the deployment of research resources. This article reviews the progress gained so far during this period which gives cause for optimism for better understanding and treatment of schizophrenia.
