Abstract

While hysterectomy remains the definitive treatment option for women with symptomatic fibroids who have completed their childbearing, alternatives are needed for women who still desire having children or wish to avoid extripative surgery. Options for such individuals include medical therapy which is usually only temporizing, and other surgical alternatives which require abdominal entry and the potential complications associated with such procedures. We encourage renewed consideration of an alternative, temporary uterine artery occlusion.
