About the Project

The Foundation's Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program was designed to provide four-year postdoctoral research awards offered to historically disadvantaged physicians who are committed to developing careers in academic medicine, to improving the health of underserved populations, and to furthering the understanding and elimination of health disparities. This grant will support the research of Dr. Ayotunde O. Dokun in seeking to learn more about peripheral arterial disease. Using a mouse model, the applicant has identified a genetic locus that confers good recovery following experimental vessel occlusion, and will conduct studies to identify the specific gene or genes conferring this phenotype.
