Abstract

`Who controls the past controls the future', George Orwell. A family of integrated systems has been developed within Digital's Enterprise Management Architecture (EMA). DECmccTM is the part of the implementation of EMA that is both an enterprise management director, i.e., a distributed resource manager, and a framework for developing new incremental integrated management solutions within EMA. An important component of DECmcc is its time-oriented object base that models both the observable state of managed objects as they evolve through time and the historical state of the objects and their attributes. Generic applications developed on the basis of the framework provide polymorphic methods for recording, retrieving and processing historical object data.
