Abstract

The effects of gel composition and electric field strength on electrophoretic resolving power were reported. The relationship between parameters describing DNA mobility as a function of molecular length was described for systematic variations of gel composition and electric field strength. These parameters were related to experimentally controllable factors such as the density of the gel matrix and the strength of the electric field. The results showed that the longer DNAs were best separated using low density gel matrices and low electric fields.
