Abstract

The papers in this special issue of Information and Computation are the expanded and revised versions of selected papers that appeared in a preliminary form in the Proceedings of the 17th International Symposium on Stabilization, Safety and Security of Distributed Systems(SSS 2015). The meeting was held from August 18th to August 21st, 2015 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Two regular papers received awards. The Best Paper Award was given to Colin Cooper, Anissa Lamani, Giovanni Viglietta, Masafumi Yamashita, and Yukiko Yamauchi for their paper 'Constructing Self-Stabilizing Oscillators in Population Protocols,' and the Best Student Paper Award was given to Lili Su and Nitin Vaidya for their paper 'Reaching Approximate Byzantine Consensus with Multi-hop Communication.' Out of the 16 accepted regular papers the Program Committee selected 5 papers that were invited to this special issue, based on their technical quality and interest. The paper by Quentin Bramas, Sébastien Tixeuil 'The Complexity of Data Aggregation in Static and Dynamic Wireless Sensor Networks,' the paper by Dan Brownstein, Shlomi Dolev, and Niv Gilboa, titled 'Functional En-cryption for Cascade Automata,' and the paper by Thim Strothmann, Andreas Koutsopoulos, and Christian Scheideler, titled 'Towards a Universal Approach for the Finite Departure Problem in Overlay Networks' were also included.
