Abstract

Osteocytes are cells nested within the mineralized bone matrix that play a key role in maintaining bone mass. New findings in Cell Reports show that β-aminoisobutyric acid (L-BAIBA), a metabolite secreted from muscle, promotes osteocyte survival under oxidative stress. This discovery reveals a novel mechanism linking muscle activity to skeletal health.
