Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in men after lung and prostate cancer and women after breast and lung cancer [1]. In 2019, the American Cancer Society estimated that 101, 420 cases of colon cancer and 44, 180 cases of rectal cancer would be diagnosed, and 27, 640 men and 23, 380 women would die from CRC [1]. The mortality from CRC has been decreasing for several decades due to improved CRC screening, risk factor modification, and better treatments. Over the last 15 years, the incidence of CRC in adults 55 years and older decreased by 3.7% per year, while the incidence in adults less than 55 years old decreased by 1.8% [1].
