Abstract
The Health Care System in Colombia has collapsed. This article depicts the influence of international economic organizations on the structure and function of the health system in Colombia, as well as the contradistinctions with the Political Constitution. It also presents an overview of the current system, as well as its setbacks and flaws at financial and administrative levels. Finally, recommendations regarding funding of the system by switching from a social security model to a model based on general taxes are made, and the advantages of a State in charge of funding and administrating are presented.
