Abstract
Larval fishes from a southeastern (USA) floodplain wetland consumed a variety of prey items, and the diets suggested that some larvae grazed the auf-wuchs/benthic communities. Low diet overlap between centrarchids and cyprinids was attributed to differences in prey selection or utilization of different microhabitats. We speculate that either mechanism reduces interspecific competition for food.
