Small- and middle-molecular substances were studied for dialysability in patients on chronic peritoneal dialysis. The peritoneum, as a "dialysis membrane", was found to be passed readily by middle-molecular substances held responsible for the "toxic symptoms" of uraemia. Peritoneal dialysis is regarded on these grounds as an efficient procedure in the management of renal failure.
