Abstract

The pioneers of oral and maxillofacial surgery have gifted the field a surgical approach and treatment for bone deficient maxillary and mandibular arches. The purpose is to bring attention to the anatomical foundations, surgical experience, and innovations wrapped up in one chapter. The reader should focus on the bodily landmarks as well as boundaries that should help to decreased complications. The motivation of these writings is to shed light on all aspects of posterior iliac crest harvest for the new and veteran oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The intent is to continue to reiterate surgical techniques that have worked in the past with innovative modifications that help with surgical success, time, and decreased complications.
